Better municipality planning in Ecuador
Under UNDP, I was part of the United Nations team advising the state minister for disaster risk reduction. I supported four municipalities to develop better plans to reduce and face socio-natural disasters. I trained more than 200 government authorities in communications and emergency situations and developed information technology innovations to improve the availability of disaster risk information.
Some of the task performed were:
– Coordinated two projects with the Ecuador Ministry of the Coastal regions
– Developed publications and one book for raising awareness to government authorities about natural disasters
– Trained more than 200 government authorities in communications in emergency situations
– Design a methodology for Municipal Contingency Plans.
– Development of information technology innovations to improve the availability of disaster risk information.
– Strengthen inter-agency coordination of the UNETE Team (United Nations Emergencies Team), working with relevant focal points of UN Agencies (WFP, UNDP, UNICEF…).
– Promote and strengthen volunteer work in Disaster Risk Reduction and humanitarian responses.
